Adhering to the organization’s founding mission, weekly after-school programs seek to introduce Lafayette elementary school students to the arts and community-based learning as viable vehicles for social change. The following programs will be administered during the 2016-2017 academic year:
Dance for Social Change
Through music and dance, interactive play, and creative movement, students become agents of social change! Students analyze contemporary music, providing them with the critical thinking skills to decipher the lyrics of their favorite songs. Dance for Social Change provides a vehicle to make a difference while being healthy and artistically expressive. Visit the Dance for Social Change Website for more information.
Art for Social Change
Art has been used to create positive social change for centuries. In addition to exploring the role that the arts continue to play when addressing social issues, students create public art to generate awareness about issues that directly impact themselves and the greater community. In the process, students acquire key public and artistic skills, build community, and recognize their inherent capacity to create change.
International Baccalaureate Program
Combining the arts, discussion, and field experiences, EC)2 staff also collaborates with fourth graders at Alicia Sanchez International School as part of their International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum throughout the academic year.
